Dress code

In order to foster a positive and focused learning environment at I.S. 141, students are expected to dress in a manner that is both appropriate and conducive to safety. Appropriate attire supports the educational atmosphere, allowing students to concentrate on learning. We kindly ask all parents and guardians to assist by reminding students of the school’s dress code policies and ensuring that their attire aligns with these expectations.

Prohibited forms of dress include, but are not limited to:

  • Clothing that does not provide coverage of torso, undergarments, and private body parts, including see-through garments of any kind
  • Clothing that contains references to drugs, alcohol, sex, violence, racism or gang affiliation
  • Hats, caps (with the exception of headwear worn for religious reasons)
  • Flip-flops/slides
  • Sunglasses while indoors

If a student comes to school wearing clothing prohibited by the Dress Code, the parents will be notified, and the student may be subject to interventions and disciplinary responses set forth in the Discipline Code. Students will be expected to make appropriate adjustments to his/her clothing to conform with the Dress Code (e.g. turning shirt inside out, borrowing temporary clothing until the end of the school day, etc.).
